Chess Style Test
Find out which of the 16 Chesstyle assessment styles fits you, from Swashbuckler and Gambiter to Grinder and Virtuoso.
What the quiz measures
The Chesstyle quiz focuses on decisions, not trivia. It asks how you handle risk, initiative, calculation, structure, defense, simplification, and unfamiliar positions. Your answers create a player-type profile that explains what you naturally notice first and where your training should go next.
A rating can tell you how often you win. A style profile tells you why your games feel the way they do. That makes the quiz useful for choosing openings, picking puzzle themes, and understanding which mistakes are style habits rather than one-off blunders.
- Tactical or positional signals: forcing moves, long-term improvements, structure, and calculation.
- Aggressive or solid signals: initiative, risk, counterplay, safety, and resilience.
- Modern/classical and intuitive/calculative signals: flexible setups, principled development, feel, and concrete variation.
After your result
Use the result as a training map. A Swashbuckler may need more technical conversion. A Grinder may need sharper tactical alertness. A Sentinel may need more initiative. A Gambiter may need patience when the attack is gone. Chesstyle links the result to Learn concepts, puzzles, and analysis so the label turns into practice.
